2023 Letter from the CEO

Reflecting on 2023 and looking forward to 2024.

At Citizens National Bank, we carry on the 123 year legacy of our founders who instilled in the fabric of our bank a set of values still present today.  As CEO of this proud organization, I am pleased to say these values continue to drive every decision we make.

  • Integrity
  • Commitment
  • Family
  • Client service
  • Responsibility
  • Community

During 2023, our accomplishments supported these core values. In a challenging market environment, we successfully grew loans year-over-year, providing capital for those businesses and individuals working to accomplish their own financial goals.  Deposits held steady in a tumultuous market environment that, for a period of time, lost confidence in the banking industry.  After two years of providing much needed PPP loans to small businesses during a pandemic, community banks took this opportunity to shine again. We provided strength and shelter to depositors while larger, regional banks were collapsing.  Reinforcing again the mantra that we are Different. Better.

The Texas Historical Commission has taken note of our integrity and commitment by awarding us with the Texas Treasure Business Award, recognizing CNB for “exceptional contributions toward the economic growth and prosperity of Texas.” We couldn’t have expected any better compliment, but you gave them to us all year long! Our five-star client reviews have been increasing every month and nothing makes us happier.

Our team feels like family, and we hope you do as well. Our in-house contact center launched this year, giving you a familiar voice with every call.  Answering over 3,200 calls per month in less than 5 seconds, this talented team has taken the bank’s level of client service to new heights.

Our responsibility to safeguard our clients’ assets also reached new heights thanks to your help. The accelerated use of technology has been overwhelming.  Improved banking alerts, notifications, digital wallet with Apple Pay and others, debit card controls in our app, and increased eStatements use have provided security and options for clients to bank in the manner that suits them best.

Sometimes our community focus looks different than volunteering or giving, although we did a lot of that this year. When building the new Round Rock location, we researched the area to ensure our building honored the rich history of the community and The Independent Bankers Association of Texas awarded the bank with the Gold Award in Architecture.  Speaking of new locations, we opened our ninth branch in Killeen, adding another community to our growing network of service.

Looking forward to 2024, I invite all to come get to know us as your banker.  The relationships we’ve shared with our clients and friends over the last century are one of our most treasured gifts. We often hear it from clients, but it bears repeating; Once they experience the difference, they realize they never knew how enjoyable banking could be.

On behalf of the Directors, Officers, and team at Citizens National Bank, I would like to thank you for your trust, banking business, and friendship.  We wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and a safe and happy 2024.
